I've been showered with Vacation & Three-Day Weekends all summer long! The thing is that none of them had seemed to take that edge off until Friday.

I feel like my life is taking a turn and I'm at peace about it.

I have limited funds due to my focus on paying off debt and random bills that keep popping up, but I have come to terms with it all.

I've felt so overwhelmed by all of my friends' different levels of love, babies, weddings, etc. You know, the usual lady thing to dwell on at my age. I'm letting go and taking control all in one swoop.

Work is still wonderful, but I'm getting cold feet about going for my goals. I've been asked to head a Marketing Committee for the Washington Healthcare Association & I'm forseeing a move back up north and training for Administrator.

And I'm back on the wagon of all those evil little habits I have been catering to for the last 2 years.

And my new mantra:

"To all the things that have been, thanks. To all the things that are to come, Yes!"

So, you don't know this yet, but for the last few weeks I decided to see what it would be like to meet new people online. Ok Ok! You got me! I wanted to see if I was right about dates (and especially blind dates) being a really really awful way to get to know someone. They are painful for me!

Current Friends, I love you and really appreciate that you haven't played "match maker" - you know how I feel - but honestly, none of you have any cute guy friends either. Sorry.

I met up with a couple of people just to see if we would have any fun. I shortly discovered 3 things:

1) When you're the only one who didn't have a blast, that's awkward and sometimes you just gotta have the balls to say you're not interested.

2) I am NOT interested in dating. Dating is time-consuming, expensive, and frankly, too much work.

3) When you attempt to only look for new friends online (and you're as good-looking as me) it just starts to become even more annoying.

Conclusion: It's over.

Inspiration: Dirty Dancing

Baby & the Swayz taught me 2 things:

1) I need to stand up straight more often

2) Yes, Leslie, what you've believed all your life is true: Love will find you.

oh my it's been forever!

well, as you know,

I went to San Diego to visit Eric

Space Mountain is Scary at Halloween.

So, was the apple juice stunt we pulled...

While I was there, my car got totaled in front of Allie's house (no one got hurt)

R.I.P, Car (1996-2010)

I got a new car '98 Toyota Corolla (as not to have a payment)

and it was a manual...kind of exciting to drive again.

And I got a new job in Gig Harbor

100 miles every day!

Then my car broke down and I hated life

And I went car shopping...

And it never seemed to end until I realized:

I wanted another Toyota Corolla

But this time, it's a 2010!! (black is sexy, yeah?)

Now I'm loving my job, wanting to meet a man who already owns a house, and enjoying a few more friends than I had before.

Where will 2011 take me?

It's an adorable, hidden, Alice in Wonderland-esque lounge.

To Tattoo or not to Tattoo!

So, I've got these friends who all have a tattoos of the outline of their home state. They would like me to join the club!

Now aside from the fact that getting a tattoo is debatable to begin with, I have to consider that Oregon is a pretty boring shape.

Anyhow, I could toy with adding Washington on top and putting details in like the I-5 corridor, mountains, etc. Here are a couple of images that I've had in mind.

While I was Made in Oregon, I'd leave that part out.

The second one I'll have to load from my iPhone later. It's a wooden Oregon that my grandma has always had on her wall.

I just have to share about a resident who I love at work!

He is the sweetest thing.

His family is wonderful!

He propels himself throughout the facility in a wheelchair all day.

He drinks mocha at each meal.

He will always smile at you.

But he has short-term memory loss.

I probably say "Hello" to him 10 times a day.

I can talk by him, say "Hello", remember I forgot a pen in my office, turn around and say "Hello" again and he doesn't remember who I am.

Today, I was outside my office waiting for a bathroom key and here comes sweet, adorable, soft-spoken George. I say, "Hello, George." He smiles - continues to move in his wheelchair - and replies, "Hello there, Legs."

I chuckled and probably blushed. I suppose that aside from how white my legs are, they look okay in this dress...

And yet another issue of ReadyMade comes to the rescue!

I just about died when I saw the recipe for this

CLT with Spicy Blackberry Mayo.

Makes 4 Sandwiches

1/2 cup fresh blackberries

2-3 tsp chopped canned chipotle pepper in adobo sauce

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 tsp whole grain mustard

1 lb halloumi* cheese, sliced into 1/4-inch-this pieces

8 slices sourdough bread, toasted

4 romaine leaves

2 large heirloom tomatoes such as Beefsteak, Cherokee Purple, or Early Girl, sliced

*Note: Halloumi is a cheese from Cyprus that won't turn to goo when you cook it. It's salty, tangy and pretty mellow in flavor. Find it at specialty food stores.

1) In a food processor or blender, puree blackberries, chipotle pepper, mayo, and mustard until well combined (I used my immersion blender...love it!)

2) Toast your bread and heat a large, heavy bottom skillet over medium high heat. Brown each side of the halloumi for about 20 seconds. Set aside. (If you use a different cheese, I would suggest broiling it onto your toasted bread instead)

3) Smear one side of each piece of bread with blackberry mayo. Assemble sandwich with cheese, lettuce, and tomato, doubling up the tomato layer if desired. (Do it!)

I had to do a variation on the recipe, because of the supplies I needed to use up in my kitchen already.

Instead of sourdough, I used Soft 10 Grain Bread from TJ's.

Instead of romaine, I used spinach.

Instead of halloumi, I used mozzarella.

Next time, I will do much more chipotle!!

I've been unknowingly avoiding my apartment for quite some time now.

I am just used to feeling at home in coffee shops and have been trying to take advantage of the spring weather!

The bad thing about not being at home is that it leads to money spending.

Whether I'm buying a happy hour drink or just a coffee, I am spending money.

This week I need to learn to love my Home.

So, today, I am starting some projects and making some food to tide me over and keep me from eating out.

1) I am finally going to start working on making the wallets I posted about a while back. And I am trying to talk myself out of making cookies, but I probably will make them anyway. I want to use my mixer!

2) I'm making this tomato black bean soup again. I wish I could bottle up the wonderful smell of baking tomatoes, garlic, basil, thyme, and jalepenos for you. Looks like this:

3) And I will continue my traditional Sunday night cookies for the Quarter but set aside a few for me. I'll make these ones tonight.

Two weekends ago, my brothers visited the Emerald City.

We enjoyed wandering around, eating Rancho Bravo Burritos, and splurging on Molly Moon Ice Cream!!

And on their way home, they passed Travis on the train tracks. Myself and a few friends bought Trav a train ticket to Seattle for his birthday. We had dinner with his parents on Sunday and then dinner & Lost with our dear friend Andy.

For the last week and a half at work, we have had the norovirus.

Norovirus = No Admissions

Admissions = More than Half my Job

Other Part of my Job = Marketing & Projects

Needless to say, I spruced up my office, got projects done and now have a lovely new pile of projects on my desk.

This last weekend, I was lazy lazy lazy!

Except I put my shadow boxes up...finally.

I lined them with fabric and will fill them as I please.

For now, the brown boxes have rocks & buttons.

We'll see what I find to fill the others with.

And I finished my book called The Help.

Now on to Reading Lolita in Tehran - 5 pages in and it's already beautiful!

But lo and behold! The mysterious Pine St. Victrola Coffee!!

Why it has been such a mystery to me all these years is a mystery itself. I mist say it is one of the brightest, most inviting coffee shop I've ever been to.

I am convinced that if I had spent my paper-writing years here instead of around the corner at Bauhaus, I might have become a different person. But I guess the close at 8pm and my paper-writing took place from 10pm-3am usually.

It is my personal preference not to read the backs of movie cases and book covers. I'd rather it be a surprise.

I recently appreciated this about myself when I started reading a book called

by Kathryn Stockett.

At first, it took me a while to get the title. Help comes in many forms, you know.

Help could be Spiritual

Help could be an Adventure Hero

Help could be a sappy Family story

Help could be that Underdog who everyone had little faith in

But no...oh no.

The Help refers specifically to a community of black women who worked as maids in the deep south during the 60's.

I began the book reading a narrative by one "helper" with a thick southern accent. It was surprisingly easy to read.

Two chapters later, the narrator changed to a second "helper." She didn't have quite the same accent but her story is very different from [yet connected to] the first.

Then, to my satisfaction [because I didn't know it would do this], the narrator changed AGAIN! But this time it was one of the white women speaking from her experience.

Now I'm sucked in. Even if they return to the same 3 narrators for the whole book, I just know it will be great! But who knows...there could be many characters who are heard.

Can't wait! Now I'm off for a walk to Stumptown to read before it gets dark!

Night of Culinary Firsts

Tonight I ventured to make a dish called

"Sicilian Anchovy Pasta with Toasted Breadcrumbs"

suggested by Feast: Food + Entertaining and compliments of Taste Buddies!

My first First was learning how to set my camera on Manual to take great food photography. This is going to be a new hobby of mine. I tried to get a little practice in, but here are my First Tries:

Taste Buddies is an Australian Food Blog, so tonight was actually the first time I had ever heard of a brown onion. I panicked, hoping that I could find one in the grocery store. Turns out it is a yellow onion covered by it's brown skin.

Silly me.

I also poached my first egg tonight!

I actually poached 4 of them, and they all turned out splendidly.

It's all about the whirlpool...

Tonight was also my first encounter with anchovies that were not already prepared in Caesar dressing.

They are pretty nasty look & feeling & smelling.

But they sure added some yum to my pasta!

I also sweated onions for the first time.

Just let them sit in oil on low heat for about 5-6 minutes in a large frying pan with a lid.

[This is a picture of them after the garlic and chili flakes had been added and "stir-fried" in.]

And this is just a picture of my final creation.

The poached egg is truly the perfect topping.

I was surprised by how rich this dish is. Maybe pair it with wine and eat it slowly with lots of friends!

I couldn't do any documenting, because from the time I walked in the door to the time I found a seat, everyone had already grabbed and devoured most of them.

Meet the Plants: Part 2

One might be wondering whatever happened to my lovely plants from last August.

Patrick the Rubber Plant, is safe and well in Portland with Travis.

Ella the Early Girl did a wonderful job at providing me with tomatoes last summer! They were delicious! Unfortunately, I won't get the chance for an Ella II until I live in a place with a balcony.

RIP, Charlie Kaufman. I shouldn't have tried to keep an orchid. I just don't have the magic they need.

And lastly, Fred the Ficus, is still alive and well!

The winter months have taken their toll on him. He is smaller than when I received him, but I repotted him today in this great-looking charcoal pot. I'll be happy when I feel safe taking down the plastic covering on my windows, so he can get lots of light in the spring and summer!

But it doesn't stop there. I got two new plants recently.

All right! So much has been going on in my life. First off, I set up a Craft Corner in my studio and can't wait to dive into some projects I've been dying to do.

But I'll show you all about that later...

Today, I am going on an adventure in the kitchen. I will attempt to combine two recipes in order to make the perfect Superbowl Cookie Experience (so head over to the Quarter Lounge tomorrow for the game.

My plan:

The Off the Rack blog introduced me to a designer - Shabd - who has used tie-dye so beautifully. The dresses are gorgeous! Here are some of my favorites:

One day before Christmas, I caught one of the attending physicians at my place of work slipping a note under my door.

[I was inside but hadn't unlocked the door from the inside yet]

When I opened the note, there was a Tully's Coffee card inside.

"Awesome," I thought, "I could use a free coffee."

I have since kept it in my purse waiting for the perfect occasion only to discover that there are NO convenient Tully's locations within my daily commute to work!

Or so I thought...

Today, I went out marketing to hospitals, etc and - lo and behold! - there is a Tully's in Virginia Mason!!

Translation: There is a Tully's less than a block from my home!

AND

There's $25 on the gift card. That's a lot of coffee.

So, Hooray!

I'm going to feel like such a Career Girl walking over to the hospital to grab coffee before my commute.

I recently read two novels set in England. I was surprised by culture shock, but am now beginning to wonder if it was because the stories were told from the perspective of children.

Regardless, I highly suggest them both.

It's called ReadyMade and is full of treasures. Check it out online.

My favorite so far is this reversible rain jacket by Kizzy Jai Knight, the designer of Jai Activewear. And she's GREEN!

Well, now that Pho Than Brothers has stepped up it's "to-go-wear" I can safely bring pho into my home (something Travis and I never did, because it was so risky). Now they have reliable lids on everything!

I personally enjoy my pho with lots of the sweet, hot oil that can only be found at Than Brothers. I usually order a "small veggie" - which comes with tofu and mushrooms - and alternate dipping bites into the hoisin sauce and squeezing lime onto it.

Delicious!

Oh, and if you like the cream puffs, I'm the one to go to pho with...you can have mine.
